How Virtuous and Rooted Software Helped Josiah White’s Residential Easily Migrate from Raiser’s Edge

We recently sat down with customer Josiah White’s Residential, who acquired Virtuous, the responsive nonprofit CRM, to discuss how the power of Rooted Software and Virtuous has enabled them to increase their supporter’s generosity.

Difficulties Using Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT

The Advancement team at Josiah White’s struggled for years with the complexity of working in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT. It was difficult to complete basic functionalities within the platform and often required additional technology that tied back into the CRM to accomplish tasks. Not to mention, having those extra pieces of software increased the financial burden on their organization. 

Through using Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT, the team quickly discovered that they weren’t actually using a cloud-based platform but rather they were working in a database view with a cloud skin over it. “At that time, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT was the gold standard CRM. However Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT was more of a skin, or interface, that made us believe that we were working in the cloud but in reality, we weren’t”, says Kevin Trotter, VP of Advancement. “While Blackbaud was building a cloud-based platform, we were really working in a database view with a cloud skin over it.”

Because of the lack of cloud-based functionality, lack of trust in their data, and complexities using the platform, Josiah White’s Advancement team began searching for a new nonprofit CRM that aligned more closely with their needs and goals.

Power of Virtuous + Rooted Software

Josiah White’s first discovered Virtuous after attending the annual CLA conference. During those conversations, Kevin and his team discovered that Virtuous aligned perfectly with their goals for the mission – to create deeper relationships with their supporters that enabled more long term generosity. 

When it was time for their team to begin the migration process, Rooted Software was brought into discussions to help facilitate the process and support the Advancement team. The previous time their Advancement team conducted a migration, from eTapestry to Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT, they were the ones solely responsible for the migration. Bringing in Rooted Software not only helped support Josiah White’s team but also gave them the confidence that their migration would be handled with professionalism and care. 

“I was pleasantly surprised when we were introduced to Sam Roderick from Rooted Software. Their team was more than ready to support the migration instead of leaving the heavy lifting to me and Andy,” says Kevin.

With Rooted Software’s deep understanding and expertise in migrating clients from Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT to Virtuous, Sam and his team could better assist the Advancement team in the process. With that level of confidence in the migration process, the Advancement team could focus on other priorities that helped support the mission.

Deepening Supporter Relationships 

Since migrating to Virtuous away from Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT, the Josiah White’s Advancement team has begun accomplishing their mission of creating deeper, more long lasting relationships with its supporters. Each supporter now receives a personalized experience through a variety of channels – emails, phone calls, and day-to-day conversations. 

Additionally, their team has saved countless hours in their acknowledgment process – something that would have taken them multiple steps and hours to accomplish in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT.   “In Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT, it would take us multiple steps to send a receipt out to donors,” says Kevin. “Now we can send personalized and custom receipts to donors in a faster and timely manner.”
